Sustainability

A SUSTAINABILITY PERSPECTIVE

For us, sustainability is an economic, social and environmental issue. Maritime Infrastructure helps countries stimulate trade, boost economic growth and create jobs. By helping to create this infrastructure, we play a direct role in the resulting sustainable social benefits.

Our commitment to sustainability can be seen in everything we do: our projects, use of technology, training and research.

By its nature, operating in this diverse market requires appreciation and awareness of the intimate interaction between business requirements and the environment. The company has developed an environmental policy consistent with these. To further facilitate these principles, the company is committed to a programme of staff training and ongoing development of innovative equipment and techniques to minimise any impact on the environment.

PEOPLE & THE GROUP

People and people management are at the heart of our Group. With company roots dated back some 3 years, it is a major challenge to pass on corporate culture and values to our staffs per year. For those who have stayed with us for years, extended vocational training, refreshing courses and management seminars are essential tools of what the EU Lisbon Summit Declaration has called 'lifelong learning'. We work with the very best professionals.

The number of staff and crew have grown in a spectacular way, along with the business. This has created enormous challenges. We have a young and enthausiastic workforce, yet no one is born or was graduated as a dredging professional. Vocational training is essential. Even more important is to pass on corporate values to the younger generation. Our corporate culture has alwasy been characterised by a very strong work ethic, including a lot of flexibility and adaptability.

TRAINING TO CREATE COHESION

It's our mission to build strong ties of cohesion between newcomers and experienced staff. In addition, we want to fnd a balance between local cultural backgrounds and traditional values in our Gorup. Finally, technological innovation and geographic expansion requires permanent learning. However, we don't just focus on technical training. Attitude-training and awareness for the exchange of information are important concerns just as well.

ENVIRONMENT

We constantly strive to improve our working methods and expertise in the environment we work in. Our customers, our markets and the law demand this, but we also do so to stay ahead of the industry and enhance our competitive position.
The all-round environmental capabilities of our in-house engineering company Hydronamic are renowned and enable us to perform highly complex projects. Our Research & Development efforts continously improve our sustainable dredging methods. We recognize the importance of discovering alternative ways to approach changing environmental circumnstances. In 2009, we introduced a research program called 'Building with Nature' to specifically address this innovation and investment ensures our fleet is always in line, or technologically ahead of the latest requirements. In addition, we run 'spearhead projects' to address environmental issues, such as emissions reduction and turbidity control.

Our compliance with the ISM, ISO 14001 and OHSAS internationally accepted standards reflects our commitment to meeting the higest safety and environmental requirements. Our subsidiary Go-Hier is active worldwide in soil remediation, sludge dewatering and the recycling of dredged materials. Our project track record and case studies show that our expertise has frequently made a key difference on environmentally sensitive dredging projects.
At Odella Dredging we have the experience and expertise to help provide solutions to our customer's sustainability dilemmas and to help mitigate some of the potential social or environmental concerns associated with their projects. Since we work with nature, we place a special emphasis on the enviornemental issues surrounding our projects.

We continually assess and monitor our processes and methods to meet changing conditions. As part of our commitment to sustainable practices, every attempt is made to prevent or limit noise pollution, the contamination of soil, water and air and the creation of waste products. The proper disposal of waste and contaminated products and the efficient use of water and energy are also key commitments for you.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
